ARDMORE, OK - As warmer temperatures roll around, veterinarians warn pet owners their furry friends may need some extra care.
Dr. Cade Wilson with the Carter County Animal Hospital said pets overheating is very common in the summer.
He recommends having extra water and shade available for outdoor pets.
Wilson said if you believe your pet to be suffering from heat exhaustion, cool the animal off immediatly with cold towels, fans or AC and contact your local vet.
"The main symptoms we see for pet exhaustion, everybody knows what their normal pet rate would be, extra is worrisome," Wilson said. "We worry about disorientation, we worry about pets going limp."
Wilson said the best way to handle any pet emergency is to have a plan.
