Kyle dedicates sports complex

The City of Kyle dedicated the new Gregg-Clarke Park sportsplex at 1100 W. Center St. last week.

Funding for the $700,000 park improvement project came from the 2007 Hays County Parks and Open Space Grant program.

"I know Kyle residents, along with residents in Hays County, are going to enjoy this wonderful facility for years to come," Kyle Mayor Lucy Johnson said. "Our parks programs are a key component to providing quality-of-life type activities for people of all ages in our community."

The complex has fields to accommodate youth and adult sports including baseball, softball, kickball, soccer, flag football and lacrosse.

Kerry Urbanowicz, parks and recreation director, said the need for additional parks has grown as Kyle's population has grown.

"When we started playing youth softball league games on the one field by the post office in the 1990s, we had the vision of a complex to bring more leagues, more teams and more players to Kyle," Urbanowicz said.? "With this unique alignment of fields, we will now be able to expand our vision to include all sports played on fields."

The sports complex includes a programmable lighting system, a 1/3-mile, crushed granite walking and jogging trail, public restrooms and a pedestrian bridge connecting the sports complex with the park's pool, picnic and playground areas.
