No. 10: Mississippi
Clean energy jobs: 426
Nearly a third of the more than 37,000 jobs that could be created from clean energy projects announced in the second quarter are scheduled in the Midwest, a national group of business leaders says.
The Environmental Entrepreneurs organization, with offices in five metro areas, this week issued its quarterly look at green energy projects around the country. It found that more than 70 U.S. clean energy projects announced in the quarter could generate 37,409 jobs in 30 states, with almost a third of those in Michigan, Ohio and Illinois.
The biggest job growth occurred in the public transportation, electric vehicle manufacturing and power generation sectors, the report found. Solar power projects accounted for 19 of the 70 projects announced and 2,483 jobs. Wind energy, though, has been slowing as uncertainty hangs over the extension of a tax credit, the report says.
Environmental Entrepreneurs, which works with the New York-based Natural Resources Defense Council, compiles its quarterly study by looking at media reports.
